Good news!

Estrada, the rescued golden-headed lion tamarin, continues to do well after release. She was found a few days ago with a male from another tamarin group. It looks like she is trying to find a new territory with her new mate away from her family group.

Estrada was probably evicted from her original family group, which often happens when individuals become adult, and was found alone and weak by the side of a road some months ago. Single tamarins in the forest are very vulnerable and often do not survive long, so to know that she has successfully paired up with a male and is in a new territory is wonderful news.

Tamarin Trust is supporting the remaining populations of golden-headed lion tamarins in several ways, including building enclosures for rescued tamarins like Estrada, where they can recover to the point that they can be released back into the wild.
