One of the actions that will be necessary for the conservation of the buffy tufted-ear marmosets is the translocation of isolated and critically threatened groups. Many marmoset populations now survive in highly degraded forest fragments or in small, isolated patches of habitat where they are barely managing to persist.
To prevent these populations from disappearing, translocation may be one of the conservation measures required. In this video, Tamarin Trust founder Dom Wormell describes plans for a possible translocation of marmosets to the Serra Negra Forest Reserve. This is a wonderful, pristine habitat that no longer appears to support buffy tufted-ear marmosets, possibly as a result of a past yellow fever outbreak.
