Town declares “mountain marmoset day”

The municipality of Portiuncula in Brazil has passed a law naming the buffy-headed marmoset as part of its biodiversity heritage, and declared June 17th as the annual “Mountain Marmoset Day”. The area’s public authorities aim to use this special day as a focus for information and education about the mountain marmosets’ conservation and ecosystem. The municipality hopes to fund activities, campaigns and the establishment of conservation areas for the marmoset, in partnership with other institutions.
