As we come to the end of our first two years, we thought you would be interested to see just how much we have achieved already with your support. As you can see from the figure below, most of the funds we’ve raised have gone directly to frontline conservation efforts.

We have excellent relationships with Brazilian government and our partner NGOs. A quote from Rodrigo Agostinho, President of IBAMA (the Brazilian government’s environment agency) summarises how important these partnerships are to conservation efforts: “We work a lot in Brazil to protect our nature, our biodiversity, our threatened species. For us, being here with Tamarin Trust, trying to work together, talking about partnerships and how to collaborate to protect our monkeys, is very important. Environmental issues in Brazil are very important because we have almost 20% of the biodiversity on the planet. Thank you for the opportunity to work together with serious NGOs.”
Here are a few of Tamarin Trust’s highlights from 2024-25:

Conservation Management Workshops
Tamarin Trust organises workshops to enhance skills and knowledge for managing tamarins and marmosets in the wild and captivity. We conducted four workshops in 2024-25 in collaboration with Brazilian agencies and Toledo Zoo, and contributed to another in Colombia, reaching nearly 200 participants from about 90 organisations. Workshops are focused on increasing capacity within range countries to support the conservation of threatened tamarins, marmosets and other primates, improving rescue, rehabilitation and reintroduction methods for isolated animals, and the management and welfare of animals in conservation assurance populations.

Mountain Marmoset Conservation Efforts
The trust supports urgent actions to protect Brazil’s rare mountain marmosets facing habitat loss and competition from invasive species, providing technical advice and financial support for breeding programmes. Our efforts have resulted in the successful establishment of the first managed programmes for buffy-headed and buffy tufted-ear marmosets, and we are now collaborating with partners to begin a reintroduction programme for the latter species.

Pied Tamarin Conservation Initiatives
Tamarin Trust is actively working to protect the critically endangered pied tamarin. A targeted workshop has improved management of pied tamarins, and the Brazilian ex-situ conservation assurance population is now thriving. We continue to support the development of a species hub in Manaus. We also support urban tree corridors and canopy bridges to reconnect habitats and funded a strategic conservation planning meeting.

Golden-Headed Lion Tamarin Rescue and Rehabilitation
The trust is addressing the crisis faced by the golden-headed lion tamarin through new rescue facilities and community involvement. Funding from Tamarin Trust has established initial rehabilitation enclosures for rescued tamarins and provided funding for essential field equipment to monitor environmental changes. The first rescued tamarin was recently treated and successfully returned to its group. Rescue and rehabilitation efforts will expand in 2026 and we will provide further support for the development of this species conservation management centre.
