We are incredibly grateful to the Australasian Society of Zookeeping (ASZK), which has raised $4,000 Australian dollars – over £2000 – for Tamarin Trust through the 2026 ASZK Neotropical Primate Conference.  The funds will be used to support vital conservation work for callitrichid species in Brazil.

On 10th September, 112 keepers from around the world came together online for the Neotropical Primate Conference to share knowledge, learn from one another and strengthen collective understanding of primate husbandry and conservation. Tamarin Trust’s Dom Wormell and Eluned Price contributed lectures, alongside Australasian zoo specialists.

Thanks to everyone who participated, presented and supported the conference, we can now turn that shared learning into direct conservation action in the field.

The timing could not be more important. Field workers have tragically recorded six golden-headed lion tamarins and two marmosets killed on a dangerous road in just five weeks. The funds from the conference will contribute towards building a vital wildlife bridge connecting two forest areas in the fragmented habitat south of Ilhéus, Bahia.

This connection will help provide a safe route between forests and, most importantly, help protect these highly endangered primates from further road deaths.
